Room 7 had a great day on Friday on our School Tour to Five Star Fun. We enjoyed the bus journey, all the fun activities, the lovely meal and the yummy ice cream! Have a look below at our photos.

There were a lot of activities to do during Active School’s week. We had Gymnastics, Gaelic Football, Sport’s Day and Family Fun Day. Have a look below at some photos and video clips of the week.
The Junior and Senior Infant children in Room 7 have settled well into their new classroom this month. We have enjoyed working together to make jigsaw puzzles, different objects using magnetic shapes and construction toys. We have enjoyed playing in our Kitchen Role Play area and making our self portraits, eye collage, hand prints and skeleton pictures. Here are a few photos of some of the activities in Room 7 so far. We hope you like them!
The long awaited school tour of Senior & Junior infants took place today, 12th June. The excitement as we boarded the big bus to Castle Farm Adventure in Ballyshannon was high! After a short trip up the road we were greeted by our leaders and given yellow bibs to make sure we weren’t mixed up with other schools.
The children enjoyed lots of activities: playing in the huge playground with swings, slides, climbing frames, go-karts and sand. We then had our snack and a big drink. After this the children got to pet some animals – a ferret called Jerry. a daddy rabbit and Fudge the gerbil. We also saw a baby emu. We then went on a tour around the farm to see more animals: meerkats, parrots, lovebirds, a partridge, a beautiful peacock with its feathers out, more ferrets, ducks and ducklings, a micro pig, a big Calafornian rabbit, a chicken with hair on his legs to make him look like he had trousers on and some very noisy roosters. We had another quick turn in the playground before some well deserved hot food……Yum!
Last but not least, the children had a trip in a barrel train around the farm before hopping abord the bus to return home to Sligo. What a wonderful fun day was had!
Senior infants took advantage of the bright sunny days to learn about shadows.
Shadows are created when an object is placed in front of a light source such as a flash light, lamp or the sun and it stops the light from passing through.
At 10am, the children went outside to draw around each other’s shadows. Some great poses were captured. The children then predicted (took a guess) as to what would happen their shadows later in the day when the sun had risen higher in the sky.
At 1.15pm, we went out to check our shadows again. The children guessed correctly that the shadow would change direction, however to the children’s surprise, their shadows had gotten shorter. They thought they would get longer. As the sun rises higher it the sky, and reaches above the children’s heads, with no objects to block the light, the shadow becomes shorter.
In the evening time, as the sun lowers in the sky, and goes behind your body, which blocks more of the sun, your shadow becomes longer.

Bhí am iontach againn inniú ag ceiliúradh lá glas ar scoil.
(We had a great time celebrating Lá glas in school today.)
Senior Infants and 3rd class joined up for a ceilí sa halla which was great fun. 3rd class danced ‘Shoe the Donkey’ for senior infants. We then joined together for two Irish ceilí dances: An Damhsa Mór (The Circle Dance) agus Ionsaí na hInse (The Siege of Ennis). We had great fun!!

Senior infants have been working very hard at learning all about 3D shapes. We learned about the properties of the shapes – that means how the shapes are made up. We learned about a cube, cuboid, sphere and cylinder.
A cube is like a box – because it is 3D, you can pick it up. It has 6 faces which are square in shape, 12 sides and 12 corners. We built cubes using marshmallows and matchsticks. Have a look at our cubes below:

What a wonderful day was had in senior infants today as we celebrated Grandparents Day 2023! We were delighted to welcome some grandparents to our classroom, but we also thought of those who could not be here due to living in other countries or those who have passed away.
Those who came to visit us got the chance to play with the children and explore our classroom. They enjoyed playing with play doh, connect 4, playing board games like Snakes and Ladders and Ludo, ordered food in our restaurant and were even set to work by their Grandchildren!!!
We all attended a whole school assembly where we remembered our dear secretary Trish, who was also a very important Granny to her grandchildren along with all the other grandparents who are in heaven. Fr. Noel & 6th class blessed us and said prayers. After the assembly, our grandparents got to relax with a cup of tea & some biscuits. Have a look at some pictures of today below.
What a lovely surprise to see our school yard covered in snow this morning. We had to go out and have some fun in it!! It sure is a little cold, but with the right clothing and footwear to keep us warm, we were good to go!
