Visit from Sligo Library

On Thursday we had a lovely visit from Staff of Sligo County Library. The pupils were told all about how easy it is for everyone to join the Library and reminded us all that it is FREE to join. We heard about all of the fabulous books that are available to ‘borrow’ and the Staff also told us that we can go into the Library anytime and just sit and read quietly.

There are always lovely activities taking place in Sligo County Library and we always share these on our St Edward’s NS Facebook Page. Why not take a trip to the Library with the kids and see for yourself all that the Library offers, to read and to enjoy.

Sligo County Library are always very kind  to our boys and girls and are always so supportive of everything we do in our school and indeed in all schools in County Sligo. We are grateful for  the time you dedicate to sharing a love of  books and the love of Reading with us all.

Return of Senior Classes to School

The Department of Education have confirmed that all children in 3rd to 6th classes will be returning to school next Monday March 15th. We are extremely delighted to be preparing to welcome back your children and seeing them all, face to face, again. 

We are putting together some information about this next phase of return to school and you should have this by tomorrow Wednesday.  Please read it very carefully. As a community we have worked very hard to get to this point and will need everybody to continue to play their part in ensuring our school remains safe for all our families.

Happy Sunday everybody! Mid term break finishes tomorrow and we are getting ready to go with our plans for learning at home once more from tomorrow for infants to 6th. We welcome back our pupils in The Ark bright and early tomorrow! Until there is an official government announcement about the next phase of reopening classes we will continue to support learning at home for everybody else in any way we can.
A reminder that tomorrow is pack collection day and we look forward to seeing you at the school at your appointed time:

Mid Term Break

A reminder that next week is mid term break and time to step away from the screens and the projects and focus just on family and making the best of the (hopefully) better weather and longer days. We are looking forward to welcoming back the pupils in The Ark on Monday 22nd- can’t wait to see your faces! 

Also on Monday 22nd there will be an opportunity for parents of children in other classes to collect some activity packs from the school during the times below. We will be including some resources for our engineering day which will be happening the following week. Yes! An engineering day! If you cannot attend at your allotted time for any reason, please drop us a message on dojo/seesaw/ HSCL phone and we will reorganise a slot for you.

Senior Infants 3D Shape home activities

The children in Senior Infants are completing some fantastic activities at home during the last few weeks. Have a look at the short video clip below showing some of the 3D shape activities that the children have completed at home.

You will see 3D shapes made using matchsticks, cotton buds, playdough and blu tack. You will also see some of the 3D activities that the children have completed on Seesaw and on worksheets. They have matched 3D shapes, sorted 3D shapes and found examples of 3D shapes in their own homes. A big thank you to all the parents who are supporting their children’s learning at home.

Collection Day -Wednesday January 27th

As we begin our third week of remote teaching and learning, I want to say well done on all of your efforts to support your children’s learning. As always,  their wellbeing is priority and doing what you can in your own individual circumstances is what we all want. There has been a huge amount of work and communication using our online platforms (Seesaw, Class Dojo and Google Classroom) and we will continue to support you and your child in any way we can.

We await a decision on any reopening (partial or full) so in the meantime we will continue with our remote learning plan and hope to support this with activity packs. There will be a second collection day this Wednesday January 27th with allocated time slots. The same safety guidelines are in place and we ask you to come at your allotted time slot and to follow the directions of the staff at the school. If you have any difficulty with the time allotted to you, please let us know in advance by ringing our school mobile number 089 2501563  or our HSCL at 086 7769756 during school hours.

  • Wear a mask and sanitise your hands just inside the front door.
  • Go straight to the hall and you will be directed to the correct area to pick up your pack(s). If you have more than one child in our school, you will be directed to the area for your youngest child’s class, where all your children’s packs will be waiting. 
  • If you have a library book to return, please drop it in the quarantine box in the hall. 
  • Please leave without delay through the back door of the hall and you will be directed out through a different exit door.

Activity Pack Collection Day-Wednesday 13th

Hi all

Today was day 1 in our move to learning at home. Both staff and pupils have put a lot of work into developing our remote learning plan and learning new skills. There was a great start today from parents and children in accessing our online platforms, on both Seesaw (infants to 2nd and The Ark) and Class Dojo/ Google Classroom (3rd to 6th). The children have been using these platforms both in class and  at home over the last term so they are quite familiar in using them. If you haven’t dipped your toes in the water yet just have a go! 

On Wednesday January 13th we will have a parent collection day for activity packs which will supplement what the children are doing online. Please read the following instructions carefully so that we can do this in the safest way possible for both staff and parents.

  • One person only from each family may collect their child’s/ children’s pack(s) during their allotted time. Come on your own!
  • Parents of children 3rd to 6th should bring your child’s library book if they have finished reading it.
  • Please be on time and come during your given time only:

Summer Holidays

And so we have reached the summer holidays. What a year it has been. It has been wonderful to get to see so many of you over the last number of weeks, my but you have grown! We have certainly missed seeing you all each day but we are feeling very hopeful now about what the next few months will bring us. We will continue to work very hard on preparing our school for reopening on August 27th and will keep you updated over the summer months. Keep any eye on this blog and on Facebook for updates!

The staff have put together a little farewell message. We had great fun putting it together. We hope you enjoy it too! 

Your Last Week of School June 2020

Hi all

It seems  strange to be saying that this is your last week in your current class…. This time last year we were cleaning our desks and playing in the sun and saying goodbye to children who were moving on with ceremonies, assemblies and farewell trips around the classrooms. This year is different and we  would certainly prefer it that wasn’t so.

However, one thing that hasn’t changed is that we will try to say goodbye for now to as many of you as possible and we will do this in person or by phone this week. We have earmarked Tuesday as the day we will try our best to say farewell to all our 6th class in person. Parents will receive a message about this later today. Looking forward to seeing you!

Teachers have lots of ideas for some virtual school trips on their blog posts this week. They look amazing! I never imagined I would be able to see some of those places up that close, especially when they are so far away!
