Following on from their first meeting earlier this month, our student council decided that their number one priority was to improve the goalposts that they use for training and for break times. They applied for permission to run a Halloween Fundraiser to cover the costs and it is happening on Friday 28th. Details below:

We have been having so much fun in school this week again. On Tuesday, we had a special visitor who danced an Irish dance with us while Ms Browne played the tin whistle. It was so much fun having Santa Claus in the classroom with us and he gave each one of us a goodie bag. We sang some songs for him too.
Milo the Therapy Dog came to visit St Edward’s on Thursday. Milo spends time in Nursing Homes and visiting children in schools helping adults and children to relax and to be happy. We loved having Milo visit us and he looked like he was enjoying his time with the boys and girls too. Thank you Mr Murphy for bringing Milo to visit us.
Assembly for Advent
We had our final Assembly of 2019 this morning. The 4 th Advent Wreath candle was lit and Ms Grimes told us all about the last candle being lit on Christmas Eve at mass.
Today we all wore Christmas clothes and jumpers and made donations to Focus Ireland who help those people who have no homes. We need to remember that Christmas is very difficult for people who have no homes but Santa knows where every child is and he will visit everyone of us on Christmas Eve night when we are fast asleep.
Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas. We will see you all back in school on Monday January 6 th 2020. We can wish each other a Happy New Year when we see each other that morning – remember to be ‘ in the line at 10 to 9!’

We were delighted to receive a thank you from Crumlin Children’s hospital for the receipt of €50 that our sixth class children donated. Picking this hospital as their chosen charity was a unanimous decision by the children and is a place close to the hearts of many of our families and the wider community in Ballytivnan.
Dear Sixth Class,
Thank you so much for your wonderful gift of €50.00, you have shown incredible kindness to some of Ireland’s sickest children today. Childhood illness takes too much and it changes everything for families. But with your generous donation, sick children in Crumlin and all over Ireland will have every chance to fight back and receive the crucial care and cures they so desperately need.
Working closely with CHI Crumlin and the National Children’s Research Centre in Crumlin, I can see the difference gifts like yours make to tiny lives. Sixth Class, your donation enables doctors, nurses and researchers to do whatever it takes in their lifesaving treatment of Ireland’s sickest children.
So from me, from all the patients you are helping and their families, and from everyone here at CMRF Crumlin, I’d like to express our sincerest gratitude. With your incredible support children like Ruby have the chance to dream big.
Today is the last day of term and we really enjoyed our Easter Egg Hunt in aid of the Charlotte Costello Fund. A huge thank you to pupils parents and staff as we collected €400 as well as eating chocolate and having fun!
At our final assembly, children with excellent and very good attendance received Easter Eggs. All the tickets from our weekly attendance slips were put into a big box and Tommy from Junior Infants was the popular winner of our giant hamper, full of goodies and things to play with over the holidays. We said a sad goodbye to Ms McGovern who is finishing up with us today, we will miss her.

Friday April 12th
Charlotte is both a past pupil of St. Edward’s and a past member of staff of our school. Money raised is towards supporting Charlotte and her family with medical expenses. Families can send in their donations from Wednesday morning.

Come along to the Showgrounds on Saturday 18th of November at 5pm for a Charity Fundraiser in memory of Paddy McLoughlin. Proceeds go to Croí. Plenty of fun activities planned for children at the event in the Showgrounds.
Saturday 18th of November
We celebrated the last day of term with an assembly in the hall. We sang some Christmas Carols and lit the last purple candle on our Advent wreath. Mrs McGowan called out the names of all the children who had excellent attendance and they all received a selection box!
We raised over €1,100 euro for some very worthwhile charities over the last month. We presented a cheque to Nicole and Taylormay for Friends of The Coombe. Their little sister has spent a lot of time in The Coombe Hospital in Dublin but the good news is that she has now been moved to Sligo and is much closer to home for Christmas! Our Carol Singers had great fun carol singing in Johnston Court Shopping Centre and the money they collected was presented to Sligo Social Services to help those most in need this Christmas. We also presented a cheque to our past pupil Emma Robinson, the Sligo Rose of Tralee, who will be swimming on Christmas Morning in Rosses Point to raise funds for her trip to Chernobyl to help the sick children there. We collected this money on our non-uniform days this week.
Tonima and Kamil received prizes because their art work was chosen for our 2015 St. Edward’s Christmas Card. Ross and Darwin in 3rd and 4th classes received a special prize from their teachers for their vocabulary work over the last few months. Well done everybody and have a happy and safe holiday!
Over the last few weeks,the children in St.Edwards N.S. have been gathering all the small change that they could find . Each morning it was collected in a large white bucket. We would like to thank Collette from the Credit Union for helping us to count it. Over four hundred euro was raised .Thanks to everyone who supported.
The money is for a very good cause. Lauren and Taylormay Shannon’s little baby sister spent some time in The Coombe Hospital in Dublin.Thankfully she is on the mend now and will spend Christmas with her family in Sligo.
We would like to donate the money to the Friends of the Coombe , a charity for sick babies to say thank to all the people who looked after her and to help other families in the future.
We will be making a presentation at an assembly after Christmas.
