Our annual Fáilte Festival took place on Friday June 15th. The rain came down but it didn’t dampen the spirits! The day kicked off with our sponsored walk and pupils, parents, staff and guests gathered afterwards in the hall. Together we remembered Ross McCarrick, our beautiful, gentle past pupil who has sadly passed away. We lit a candle and remembered his family, friends, neighbours, teachers and everybody who is heartbroken with his passing.
We also remembered Paddy McLoughlin, a grandfather of a pupil in our school who also passed away last summer. Paddy’s legacy will live on for many years in our school as funds raised from the sponsored walk, along with a very generous donation from his family have enabled us to train all pupils from 4th to 6th classes as well as staff, in emergency response, CPR and AED (defibrillator) use. The success of the fundraising also means that we can now purchase an AED device for our school building as a life saving resource for our community.
We also came together to celebrate the retirement of Máire Hunt from our staff who has been working in St. Edward’s since 1995 as both a teacher and as our HSCL. She was presented with gifts from pupils, BOM and parents and was really suprised when the pupils performed an ABBA themed special composition called “Thank You for the Music”, ably accompanied by Rachel Farrell, a past pupil. She will be missed by all and we wish her many years of health happiness and relaxation!
We really enjoyed the kids BBQ supplied by the Clayton Hotel and residents of Globe House also created some wonderful dishes from around the world as part of their Global Kitchen initiative. Once the food was out of the way, the rest of the afternoon was for fun activities outdoors such as bubble football, bouncy castles, novelty races among others. Congrats to all our raffle winners. What a lovely day!
Calling all bakers! Please support our annual cake sale.
4th class room 4 are organising the cake sale this year on Friday at our Fáilte festival. We would really appreciate if each family could contribute something to sell. All sweets and treats, big or small welcome!
Cakes and buns can be dropped into the school on Friday morning. Cakes go on sale at 1.15pm
This year, our annual family event will be held on Friday 15th June. Please note the change of day from Sunday to Friday. All children in the school will be able to take part. On that day we welcome parents and families into the school for a very special event from 11AM onwards when we will begin with our sponsored walk. This will be followed by our BBQ and fun activities around the school.
On the day we will have a presentation of CPR certificates to staff and children who will have completed specialised training with Innisfree Safety.
We will welcome back our special guest for the day, Máire Hunt, who recently retired.
The children are organising a number of surprise events for the day and we look to seeing you there! Watch out for more details over the coming weeks…
It’s coming near that time of year again! Sponsored Walk cards went home today with children. The final date for bringing back cards and money is Thursday 8th June, but if children have them back earlier than that, teachers have promised lots of extra stamps! Each family that brings back a card and money will be given a free ticket for the annual festival which includes BBQ, DJ, novelty games and lots of fun. This is the main fundraising event for the year and all money raised is used to purchase resources for children within the school to support teaching and learning.
Have a look below at what we got up to last year!
Corey and Saoirse made this short “ad” for our Fáilte Festival this weekend during our after school Movie Makers Club. Well done Corey and Saoirse!

On Sunday 9th June, the children, parents, teachers and friends of St Edward’s National School hosted their annual fundraiser, the ‘Fáilte Festival’.
We were blessed with such a fine day. We all set off on our sponsored walk at 3 o’clock and returned to the school at about 4, where staff of the Clarion Hotel had a fantastic barbecue waiting for the hungry walkers.
We also had face painting, a disco, children’s work on display, a photo competition and novelty races.
Thank you very much to everyone who helped and especially, the Home School Association.
A great day was had by all.
