Happy Christmas Everybody!

We celebrated lots of good news at our last assembly of the term today-

  • The 4th Sunday of advent
  • Loads of children earning reading certificates in 3rd and 4th class,
  • The winner of our school Christmas card Design competition
  • The winner of the parents raffle for those who took part in our Parent Survey during the week
  • All the children with excellent attendance in Term 1
  • Prizes for most improved punctuality
  • The winners of our Laps to Lapland Challenge rooms 2 and 11. (We ran over 60, 000 laps of the track in December!!!)

….and we rounded it all off with a few verses of one of our favourite Christmas songs!

We wish you a very happy and peaceful Christmas full of family and fun.

See you all back on Monday January 5th 2026. 

Personalised Season’s Greeting Cards!

Calling all parents! Children have their sample cards, that they personally designed, in their school bag today. The inside of the cards will be blank for you to write your own personal greeting. You can order packs of 10 cards for €8.50 each. Last day for orders is Monday 2nd. Please support our winter fundraising drive. Thank you!

Christmas in Junior Infants

There were lots of Christmas activities going on in Junior Infants this month. Have a look at our slideshow of photos and videos and you will see all the activities we did in Aistear. We had our Santa’s Grotto, where we dressed up as Santa or the elves or reindeers and designed toys, made them and we really enjoyed wrapping them up and putting them into Santa’s sack or under the Christmas Tree. 

We made lots of Christmas art, Christmas wreaths, stockings, trees, cards, jumpers, lights, candy canes, snowflakes, snowmen. We found lots of Christmas words in our snow area outside. We had a visit from Santa who brought us lovely treats. 

In PE, we played Reindeer tag and lots of games using the parachute. We played lots of fun Christmas games on the iPads and on the board. We had our Christmas performance where we sang songs and dressed up in our Christmas jumpers. 

We put the baby Jesus into our school crib and said our prayers. Fr Noel came into our classroom and gave us lovely Christmas cards. We had a visit from Milo the rescue dog. 

We made snowmen out of marshmallows and decorated them using coloured icing. Ms Cormican came into our classroom and showed us real Reindeer antlers which got caught in a tree beside her house one Christmas eve. We made sets, patterns and learned all about the number 2 and 3 in maths.

Finally we got to go on a trip to the Hawkswell to see a Christmas performance, which we really enjoyed.

December in the Ark

Wow wee, what a month! Below are some pictures of all the activities we managed to squeeze in this month. We visited the Hawkswell for a concert, wrapped up warm in the frost and ice, made Gingerbread men, went to Advent assemblies (and read a prayer in front for the school), practiced for the Christmas Concert, decorated the room for Christmas and had a visit from the Man in Red himself. Now its time for rest after all that! Happy Christmas and New Year from everyone in the Ark!

Christmas Raffle Winners!

Look at the happy faces on all of our winners in the Christmas Raffle.

Thank you to everyone who bought tickets for the raffle and to our sponsors who supported us with fantastic prizes.

All of the money raised from the raffle will go towards buying resources and equipment for the boys and girls to use in the classrooms.

Visit from Sligo Library

On Thursday we had a lovely visit from Staff of Sligo County Library. The pupils were told all about how easy it is for everyone to join the Library and reminded us all that it is FREE to join. We heard about all of the fabulous books that are available to ‘borrow’ and the Staff also told us that we can go into the Library anytime and just sit and read quietly.

There are always lovely activities taking place in Sligo County Library and we always share these on our St Edward’s NS Facebook Page. Why not take a trip to the Library with the kids and see for yourself all that the Library offers, to read and to enjoy.

Sligo County Library are always very kind  to our boys and girls and are always so supportive of everything we do in our school and indeed in all schools in County Sligo. We are grateful for  the time you dedicate to sharing a love of  books and the love of Reading with us all.

December in The Parents Room

We have had a very busy few weeks in the Parents Room with 2 two very successful workshops.

Make Up Session:
Early in December, the wonderful Caroline Wimsey ran a Make Up Workshop for Parents. It was a lovely morning with Caroline sharing her make up skills and talents with us.

Flower Arranging:
On Friday 16th, Martina Kilian joined us to help us to create floral center pieces for Christmas. We used materials that can be easily found in our homes- ribbons, old decorations and recyclable containers. The 6th Class pupils helped Ms Browne to gather greenery from around the school grounds.

It was a great morning and these Parents are so creative yet didn’t think so at the start of the workshop. Their pieces are beautiful!

Lots of creativity, chocolate, coffee and Christmas music- a morning to remember!

Christmas in Junior Infants

Happy New Year to everyone! We hope you all had a nice Christmas and new year. Have a look at the slideshow below and you will see some of the Christmas activities we completed in Junior Infants during December.

We walked over to St Joseph’s church where we said some prayers and visited the crib. We put the baby Jesus in our own school crib. We designed our own Christmas tree headbands using glitter and sequins. We made our own Christmas Tree and Snowman for our classroom. We made Santa beards for our Christmas performance using paper plates and cotton wool. We made our own Christmas stockings using ribbon, glitter and sequins. We played in our own snow area outside. We practiced for our Christmas performance. We made Christmas objects using playdough. We made Christmas cards for our family. We had great fun in our Santa’s Grotto and Elf workshop where we designed our own toys, made our own construction toys, wrapped presents, wrote names on the good and naughty list, wrote our own list for Santa and posted it into our own post box. We made snowmen and Christmas trees using our cutting skills and coloured them in. In maths we put buttons on the snowmen to match them to the correct number on the snowmen. We had a visitor Eddie the Elf to our classroom for the month of December and then Santa himself visited our classroom. We were so happy to see him and we sang When Santa Got Stuck Up The chimney for him, with the help of Ms Browne.  We make snowmen using marshmallows and some children used bananas. We enjoyed our PE lessons using our Winter Run Brain Break on the board. On our last day we had a lovely visit from our friend Milo the rescue dog. We hope you enjoy our photos.

Christmas in the Ark!

A very busy month in the Ark, preparing for the Christmas Concert and meeting the big man himself! The SNA’s wrote a beautiful Christmas story staring the children in the Ark. The children then read their story for the Christmas show and they did brilliantly!  Lots of hard work and practice for the show, I hope you all enjoyed it!

We also had a visit from the big man himself! Everyone was so excited to see him and he knew all the boys and girls, checking the addresses and making sure that he had the right house for Christmas eve.

He was very happy to see everyone and told them that they would get extra presents because they have worked so hard all year. Thank you Santa for visiting and Happy Christmas from the Ark!!
