There were a lot of activities to do during Active School’s week. We had Gymnastics, Gaelic Football, Sport’s Day and Family Fun Day. Have a look below at some photos and video clips of the week.

We had our School Tour in Junior Infants on Monday 12th June. We went to Castle Adventure Open Farm in Ballyshannon along with Senior Infants and two boys from the Ark. We enjoyed the bus journey to Ballyshannon, we had great fun in the magnificent playground which had go-carts and a tunnel slide. We had a train ride in barrels and we got to see loads of wonderful animals. We even got to pet some of the animals. Have a look at our slide show below.
On Friday 16th June we had our Family Fun Day, which started off with a Sponsored Walk. A big thank you to all the parent’s who joined us for this walk. When we arrived back from our walk the Ice Cream van had arrived and we had some yummy ice-cream from Mammy Johnston’s. Thank you to Mammy Johnston’s for the delicious ice-cream. As part of our Active School’s Week, we had Beat the Teacher Challenge! This was very competitive and exciting for us all to watch. Well done to all the teachers, SNA’s and the 5th and 6th class pupils who took part in the different activities. There was Tug-a-War, Sack Race, 3 Legged Race and the Hula Hoop Challenge. It was great fun! Well done to everyone who took part!
Active school’s week is in full swing in our Junior Infant classroom this week. We enjoyed using the different gym equipment in the hall. We played one of our favourite playground games outside on the pitch – Duck Duck Goose . We had great fun learning how to play tennis outside with a tennis coach and we have been completing our 25 lap challenge each day this week. We run or jog half a lap or a full lap to reach our 25 laps each day. We have 3 golden tickets now for completing the 25 lap challenge and we hope on Friday to get our final golden ticket! Aishling Kilkenny (SCP) Evert & Elsa (Roots of Empathy Teacher)
The Roots of Empathy Programme is currently running in 2nd class , with our wonderful Mom Evert & of course our Roots of Empathy Teacher, Baby Elsa.
Aishling from School Completion Programme, is delivering the Programme and works with 2nd Class & Ms Middleton each week. The Programme is a 27 week programme and aims to reduce levels of aggression among school children by raising social-emotional competence and increasing empathy.
At the heart of the programme is a baby (Elsa) and parent (Evert) who visit the classroom every three weeks during the school year. A trained Roots of Empathy instructor (Aishling) coaches the children to observe the baby’s development and to label the baby’s feelings. The baby is the ‘teacher’ in this experiential learning, while the instructor helps the children identify and reflect on their own feelings.
Well done to everyone involved and especially to Baby Elsa who is just a ‘superstar’!!

All pupils are encouraged to dress up for school on Friday 28th and remember we have some ‘fangtastic’ prizes for ;
Best Homemade Costume, Funniest Costume & the Scariest Costume.
Pupils are asked to bring €5 each (€10 per family) with all money raised going towards the purchase of new goals for our school pitch.
Our newly formed Student Council agree that our school needs new goalposts so this is their idea and we all agree that it is a wonderful idea. 
Let’s support our Student Council while having some fun and watching the Teachers so some ‘scary’ dancing 
Such a lovely relaxing walk this morning with this group of Parents /Guardians. It is so lovely to just take time for ourselves and enjoy a walk while chatting to others.
All are welcome- looking forward to seeing more of you next week!!!Depending on the weather, we might go on Thursday morning. I will send a message.

On the 7th of June we had our Active School Week. We really enjoyed the week in Junior Infants. We took part in so many fun activities. First, we went outside and practiced some novelty races. We loved the relay races using the batons. We also completed races using hurdles, we enjoyed jumping over the hurdles. We also had the egg and spoon race. Then the next day, we went over to Sligo IT and had great fun using the big foam shapes, hoppers, hula hoops. We also played Hockey. The next day we had great fun learning GAA skills with the GAA instructor. We played a fun game of Ship, Sea, Shore. We were very good at listening to the instructions. On the next day we used the gymnastic equipment in the hall. We had great fun jumping off the high beam, walking across the bench, jumping across hoops and crawling through the tunnel. Then we had to pull ourselves up the bench and up onto the climbing frame and across the climbing frame. This was great fun! Some of our friends from 4th class helped us. On our last day of active school week we went to the track at Sligo IT and had great fun competing in races. We ended our Active Schools Week with the Sponsorship Walk.
Last Thursday we had a great day on our School Tour to Castle Adventure Farm in Ballyshannon. We enjoyed the bus trip to the farm. Senior Infants and children from the Ark also joined us for our tour. We loved the spin on the barrel train. We had great fun in the outdoor playground. We saw many different types of farm animals: pigs, goats, birds, ducks, chicks. We fed the goat some grass. Then we got to pet some of the animals on the farm, the guinea pig was only 5 days old. We got to pet a baby eagle and a very young baby duckling. We finished off our tour with some lovely hot food in the Cafe. We had a great day out! Have a look at the photos and videos below.
Last Friday, Junior Infants had a lovely walk to Homeland. We went to visit the Pet Shop and Garden Centre. Last month we were learning all about different types of pets and animals during our Aistear and this month we are learning about growing plants. We have a Garden Centre Role Play area in our classroom. We brought Theodore our school mascot teddy bear with us and he really enjoyed his trip with us. We were very lucky that it was a beautiful sunny day and we looked out for signs of Spring on our walk. We passed by St Joseph’s Church and said a prayer. On our way down we saw some beautiful spring flowers and buds on trees. We saw a horse and foal in the field. We remembered the rules for crossing the road and made sure we looked right and left before crossing. We used the zebra crossing and pelican crossing to help us cross the road safely. We saw some lovely boats on our way across the bridge.
In the Pet shop we saw all the different types of food for the different animals. We saw loads of different types of pet animals such as fish, birds, hamsters, lizards, guinea pigs, bunny rabbits. We saw all the different types of beds for the animals such as kennels, cat houses, toys for cats and dogs to play with.
Then we went to the Garden Centre where we saw loads of beautiful flowers, shrubs, pots and plants. We saw different types of gardening tools to use in our garden. Then we had a lovely picnic outside Homeland on the benches.
Finally, on our way back to school we stopped off at the playground and really enjoyed playing on the slides, swings, see saw, climbing frames and monkey bars. Theodore really enjoyed the slide and we brought him to the very top of the climbing robes. We hope to bring Theodore on another trip very soon. A big thank you to Ms Williamson and Vincent who joined us on our walk and to Keith in Homeland for showing us all the pets. We hope you enjoy looking at our photos and videos below.
