Parents Cookery Course with Eileen’s Kitchen Table

Our 6 week Cookery Course with Eileen Kirrane, finished this week. What a wonderful 6 weeks we all had.

This great bunch of Parents baked and cooked so many beautiful and tasty dishes over the 6 weeks.

They made scones, madeira cake, Ukrainian Cheesecake, pancakes and lots more savoury dishes.

Eileen showed us all how to make or own breadcrumbs, chicken goujons, baked vegetables and how to add simple flavour to dishes for all the family to enjoy.

Well done to all of the Parents who attended the Course and a big ‘Thank You’ to Eileen Kirrane who is a wonderful Tutor, Chef but above all a great lady who put a smile on all our faces every Wednesday morning.

Eileen will be back with us in October for more ‘Quick and Easy Meals for all of the Family’

Storytime – Senior Infants

Our Senior Infants and Ms. Walsh are very excited about their Storytime Programme which starts today, Monday for 20 weeks.

Each child will take home a new book , every Monday and Thursday, to share and enjoy at home with a Parent/Guardian. By the end of the 20 weeks, each child will have brought 40 books home and shared ‘StoryTime’ with their family.

On Friday morning last, Senior Infant Parents were invited to The Parents’ Room to chat to Ms. Browne, to find out more about the Programme and to have a cuppa. We chatted about the importance of spending a few minutes every evening with our children, looking at a book – talking about the pictures, the characters, imagining a different endiong to the story etc.

We were then treated to a fabulous story by Ms.Grimes, who read to the Senior Infant Class in The Library.

We all loved the book ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ – thank you Ms. Grimes.

Remember to put away the phones and devices, find a quiet spot in your house and enjoy the book with your child.

Thursday is World Book Day and our Book Fair starts on Wednesday – the excitement is huge!! We love books and love to read – the greatest gift we can give our children is the gift of reading!

Grandparent’s Day – Wednesday 25th January

We all know how wonderful Grandparents are and just how important they are in the lives of our children.

We are celebrating Grandparents Day in St. Edward’s NS on Wednesday 25th January as part of Catholic Schools Week.

All Grandparents are invited to come to the school at 11am on Wednesday where they will get a chance to visit their grandchildren in their classrooms.

We will have a whole school Assembly and a cuppa for all the Grandparents.

Looking forward to seeing as many there as possible.

Visit from Sligo Library

On Thursday we had a lovely visit from Staff of Sligo County Library. The pupils were told all about how easy it is for everyone to join the Library and reminded us all that it is FREE to join. We heard about all of the fabulous books that are available to ‘borrow’ and the Staff also told us that we can go into the Library anytime and just sit and read quietly.

There are always lovely activities taking place in Sligo County Library and we always share these on our St Edward’s NS Facebook Page. Why not take a trip to the Library with the kids and see for yourself all that the Library offers, to read and to enjoy.

Sligo County Library are always very kind  to our boys and girls and are always so supportive of everything we do in our school and indeed in all schools in County Sligo. We are grateful for  the time you dedicate to sharing a love of  books and the love of Reading with us all.

October in 5th Class

October has been another busy month for 5th Class in Room 11.

We learned all bout Greece in our SESE lessons and for art we designed some ancient Greek urns. I think you will agree that there are some fantastic artists amongst us.

We really enjoyed Maths Week in 5th Class. We especially enjoyed using our Maths Eyes at home to find Maths in our environment. We uploaded pictures onto Seesaw and became the Maths teachers in school the next day. We asked our classmates Maths questions about our pictures.

2D shapes was our theme during Maths Week and we worked in stations using tangrams, geoboards and polydrons.

We also enjoyed working in pairs on our Maths Eyes trail around the school.

Engineer’s Week in 3rd Class.👩‍🔧🧑‍🚀👷‍♀️

A very different way of celebrating Engineer’s Week this year in 3rd. We got the opportunity to share this event with our families and do our Engineering activities at home.

At school we have played Marble Run. It is great fun. Now we had the chance of planning and creating our very own paper plate marble maze and let our families join in on the fun.

The first stage was the planning stage where we were asked to sketch our very own design deciding on what materials we could use.

Then we put our design together and we tried it out to see how it worked.

Finally, we had the chance to reflect and see what worked well 🙌 and if we were to do it again what would we change.

Senior Infants 3D Shape home activities

The children in Senior Infants are completing some fantastic activities at home during the last few weeks. Have a look at the short video clip below showing some of the 3D shape activities that the children have completed at home.

You will see 3D shapes made using matchsticks, cotton buds, playdough and blu tack. You will also see some of the 3D activities that the children have completed on Seesaw and on worksheets. They have matched 3D shapes, sorted 3D shapes and found examples of 3D shapes in their own homes. A big thank you to all the parents who are supporting their children’s learning at home.

Junior Infants Room 8 June 22nd

Good morning Junior Infants and parents. I hope you all had a nice weekend. This is your last week before the summer holidays! This week in your pack I have some water safety and sun safety worksheets for you to complete and I have uploaded some more virtual tours of Dublin Zoo for you to have a look at with your families.

Water Safety

Please have a look at the email I sent to parents this morning. I have sent a video of a story about water safety for your child to look at and listen to. It is very important that children stay safe this summer when they are having fun with water. You will find these two worksheets in your pack.

On worksheet 1, it says, Are the children Safe? You have to talk to your family about each picture. Are the children safe? Is there an adult watching each child? Match the adult that is missing in each picture. Then colour the pictures. On worksheet 2 discuss what you would say to the person in each picture to keep them safe.

Sun Safety

It is important that you protect your skin when you are out enjoying the sun this summer. Make sure you wear sunscreen to protect your skin, a hat to protect your head, sunglasses to protect your eyes, drink plenty of water and stay in the shade if you are getting too hot. Thank you to all the parents for the continuous support you have given your children since March. I know it has not been easy and I am very grateful for those of you who have contacted me with pictures and videos of your children during the past few months. 2nd Class – Room 10 – June 22nd 😎

Hello 2nd Class.

I hope everyone is keeping well and happy.

It is really hard to believe it is the end of  June and this is the last week before what would normally be our school holidays.  Nobody thought that when the school closed on the 12th March that we wouldn’t be back until August.  It has been a tough few months , missing friends and family but with everyone doing their bit to help prevent the spreading of the virus we are beginning to see life starting to go back to what we are used of.

This week, I am not sending out a timetable but you can  continue with the sheets from your activity pack.  There are lots of different activities to do all about the summer theme.

On this weeks  blog, I am sharing some sample virtual tours that you can have a look at. It is not the same as actually  going to these places but there is such a variety out there that you can start making a list of places you would like to go and visit when things start to reopen.

3rd class Room 3 June 22nd

Good morning 3rd class!
I hope that you are all keeping well and that you enjoyed the weekend. This is your last week in 3rd class! It has certainly been a strange school year since March but you should all be very proud of the work you have done at home.

I want to say a special thank you to everyone who contacted myself , Mr Slevin or Ms Browne with photographs and samples of your work. It can be difficult to complete school work at home but you all did a fantastic job. Well done!

If we had been at school we would have gone on a school tour in June. So this week I  would like you all to go on a virtual school tour.
