5th and 6th class went on their school tour to Shannon River Adventure, Thursday the 18th of June. Under the supervision of safety instructors, the children took part in land and water based activities. They started their adventurous School Tour with activities such as, scream races, obstacle courses, archery, rock climbing amongst other playground challenges and games. They later had a light snack before starting their water based activities such as mud sliding, pier jumping, canoeing and kayaking. The students of 6th class reported that their final school tour was one of the best they ever had. -Tommy Clancy of 6th Class.

The children in Room 2 have been working very well since returning to school and each week they look forward to Golden Time. One of our favourite Golden Time activities so far this year has been making chocolate hats. We used just three ingredients – chocolate, marshmallows and sprinkles. They were delicious!
Another Golden Time activity was a nature walk to the ATU. We took advantage of the last of the summer sunshine and had great fun spotting signs of Autumn. We found leaves of different colours, acorns, pine cones, berries and wild mushrooms.
We had an absolutely fantastic time at the Heritage In Schools Road Show at the ATU last Friday. We got to learn about traditional toys made from reeds and made our own Biddy Dolls, we learned about the different types of trees and bushes and played some traditional garden games made from wood. We also got to enjoy a delicious ice-cream to keep our energy up!
We would like to say a huge thank you to Lorna and all The Model staff for facilitating our fantastic visit last week. We got some really interesting insights into their current exhibitions and we even got to create our very own imaginative piece to place in a Cabinet of Curiosity of our very own.
Room 7 had a great day on Friday on our School Tour to Five Star Fun. We enjoyed the bus journey, all the fun activities, the lovely meal and the yummy ice cream! Have a look below at our photos.
We were very lucky to receive an invite to Sligo County Library to have an art session with author and illustrator, Melissa Culhane. A wonderful way to celebrate Children’s Book Month.

Well done to the girls from 4th, 5th and 6th class who represented our school at the Girls Tag Rugby Blitz at Sligo Rugby Club on Friday 19th April.
Each of our teams played four matches against other local schools.
It was great fun and we enjoyed learning some new skills.
We had our School Tour in Junior Infants on Monday 12th June. We went to Castle Adventure Open Farm in Ballyshannon along with Senior Infants and two boys from the Ark. We enjoyed the bus journey to Ballyshannon, we had great fun in the magnificent playground which had go-carts and a tunnel slide. We had a train ride in barrels and we got to see loads of wonderful animals. We even got to pet some of the animals. Have a look at our slide show below.
On Friday 16th June we had our Family Fun Day, which started off with a Sponsored Walk. A big thank you to all the parent’s who joined us for this walk. When we arrived back from our walk the Ice Cream van had arrived and we had some yummy ice-cream from Mammy Johnston’s. Thank you to Mammy Johnston’s for the delicious ice-cream. The long awaited school tour of Senior & Junior infants took place today, 12th June. The excitement as we boarded the big bus to Castle Farm Adventure in Ballyshannon was high! After a short trip up the road we were greeted by our leaders and given yellow bibs to make sure we weren’t mixed up with other schools.
The children enjoyed lots of activities: playing in the huge playground with swings, slides, climbing frames, go-karts and sand. We then had our snack and a big drink. After this the children got to pet some animals – a ferret called Jerry. a daddy rabbit and Fudge the gerbil. We also saw a baby emu. We then went on a tour around the farm to see more animals: meerkats, parrots, lovebirds, a partridge, a beautiful peacock with its feathers out, more ferrets, ducks and ducklings, a micro pig, a big Calafornian rabbit, a chicken with hair on his legs to make him look like he had trousers on and some very noisy roosters. We had another quick turn in the playground before some well deserved hot food……Yum!
Last but not least, the children had a trip in a barrel train around the farm before hopping abord the bus to return home to Sligo. What a wonderful fun day was had!
Just before Easter, Junior Infants had a lovely trip to Homeland. We were learning about pets and animals last month and this month we have been learning about The Garden Centre so we decided to take a visit to the Garden Centre and Pet Shop in Homeland. We had a lovely walk down, the sun was shining and we saw some lovely spring flowers. We also looked at the buildings and houses on our way down. We saw semi detached and terraced houses. We passed St Joseph’s church and said a prayer outside it. We remembered our safe cross code when crossing the road. We used the zebra crossing and waited for the green man to appear when using the pelican crossing. We saw many different types of vehicles on the road. We waved to the lorries and they blew their horns at us! There were some big tractors on the road also. We saw Knocknarea and Benbulben mountains and saw many boats at the Harbour.
When we reached Homeland, we went to the Pet Shop first, we saw a dog getting groomed. There were lots of fish and birds to see. We saw bunny rabbits and hamsters. There were loads of toys and beds for cats and dogs and we saw some big dog kennels.
Then we went to The Garden Centre, where we saw loads of colourful flowers, pots and soil for planting. There were different types of stones and ornaments for gardens. Then we had a lovely picnic outside Homeland before we walked to the playground. We had a lovely fun filled day. Have a look at our slideshow to see some photos and videos.
