On Tuesday June 24th the pupils and staff of St Edwards celebrated the football talent at our Sports Day assembly.
Medals were presented to the winning Girls team of the lunch time soccer league by Miss Hunt and Miss Kivlehan awarded the victorious boys winners with their medals. Well done to everyone involved.
Special mention goes out to Craig Farrell (6th Class) and Chelsea Loftus (5th Class) who showed excellent examples of sportsmanship on Sports Day and during the running of the leagues.
Congratulations also to Lukasz (3rd), Kayleigh (6th) and Nigel (2nd) who each won a signed football by the footballers of the Sligo Rovers Team. Everyone who attended the 6 training sessions after school with John Russell, Gino Boyle, Adam Coyle & Mr Maye were entered into a draw for these fantastic prizes.
Thanks again to Gino of Glenview Stars FC and John Russell of Sligo Rovers FC for helping us with our soccer skills.
On Wednesday the 18th of October, 3rd & 4th Class went on their school tour. This year, we had a local geography and history theme to our trip. We visited places which inspired WB Yeats to write some of his most famous poems and also a castle which was built in the early 16th century
We set off from the school at 9 o’clock and our first stop was Tobernalt Holy Well. Afterwards, we continued on to our second stop which was Dooney Rock. We then drove on to Parke’s Castle beside Lough Gill, once the home of Robert Parke. From here, we went on a boat cruise on Lough Gill. We had great fun reciting some of Yeats’ poems and songs with George, the captain of the boat.
We had an enjoyable picnic when we got back on land and we concluded our tour with a very interesting tour of Parke’s Castle.
On Friday each of our Junior Infants had the chance to create their very own personalised pizza to eat for their lunch. They were able to choose from a variety of toppings including cheese, pineapple, chorizo sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, chicken and bacon and many more. They were absolutely delicious and there were some very empty plates left behind after lunch. Yummy!!!
We were so pleased to receive our Creative Schools Award. We had lots of help and support from other children in the school while we complete our PLACE project and we are really happy that our hard work has been rewarded with this award for the school. We had such a lovely time being part of PLACE this year and we hope we will have the opportunity to continue it next year.
On Sunday the 8th of June St.Edwards N.S held our annual Fáilte Festival and sponsored walk. This year for the first time all thanks to the Student Council and 5th class we had a wonderful cake sale too.
First, everyone went for our sponsored walk. It was great to see people of all ages taking part. When we returned we had a delicious well earned BBQ.
In the hall the cake sale took part and was very successful with a large selection of cakes and buns. Everything was sold and we raised €278.55 for new goal posts.
We also had face painting, loom making and novelty races. It was an eventful and enjoyable day.
