2. Sieve the flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl.

3. Beat together the softened butter and sugar.

4. In another bowl mash the bananas.

5. Whisk the eggs and mix with the mashed bananas.

6. Put all the ingredients into one bowl and bring together gently.

7. Pour into the loaf tin and smooth the top flat.

We all had a piece of bread and really enjoyed it!

Wear Your Woolies!

Winter is Here

Winter is Here

Last week Stephen from 3rd class brought the class camera onto yard and noticed that quite a few people were wearing a wide selection of hats.

It’s very important to wear hats, scarves and gloves at this time of year.

Christmas Holidays

Non-uniform Day

Today the pupils took part in a Non-uniform Day to raise money to send to The Phillipines. Angela from Sligo Credit Union brought a money counting machine into the school and pupils from The Student Council helped her count the money. The total raised was €711.75. Well done to everyone!!

Book Fair

Senior Infants

In Senior Infants we were learning about road safety and the safe cross code. We learned a rhyme to remind us about wearing a seatbelt in the car. Click below to hear it.

Students School Improvement

Klaudia and Mateusz from 5th class decided that our school could do with some art improvement. The alphabet near the junior and senior infant rooms had faded off the walls. They went to Mrs. McGowan and asked her could they improve it as part of a project with Ms. Bruen as they wanted to make our school look as well as possible for our infants and for any visitors. They also spruced up our “Be Safe, Be Seen” sign as a safety reminder – especially important when the days are short.

They did a fantastic job – Well done Mateusz and Klaudia.

Science Week 2013 – Chemical Energy Experiment

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

On Wednesday the 6th of November, as part of Science Week, St Edwards N.S held a Science Fair in our hall. Each class set up a table and demonstrated one of their favourite science experiments that they had done this term.

In 6th class we demonstrated how to make a lava lamp using oil, water, food colouring and an alka seltzer tablet. This experiment is based on chemical energy. This is the procedure:

1. Fill 1/4 of the bottle with water.

2. Fill 1/2 of the bottle with oil.

3. Add a few drops of food colouring.

4. Put an alka seltzer tablet into the bottle.

5. Shake the bottle gently.

The oil and water  added to the bottle separate from each other, with oil on top because it has a lower density than water. The food colouring falls through the oil and mixes with the water at the bottom. The piece of Alka-Seltzer tablet you drop in after releases small bubbles of carbon dioxide gas that rise to the top and take some of the coloured water along for the ride making the lava lamp effect.
