Fun with maths

Did you know that the triangle is a very strong shape?                                                                                                                                                         If a heavy load is put on a square it becomes distorted and ends up looking like a parallelogram.

The triangle is not easily deformed and it is a very popular building shape.

We made squares, triangles, cubes, square-based pyramids and triangular-based pyramids using cocktail sticks and mini marshmallows.

Teacher then gave us a construction challenge – make a structure that uses both triangles and squares. Teacher was looking for the strongest and the tallest structure.

Dominik won the tallest category. He made a structure which resembled the Eiffel Tower.

Sophie won the strongest category. She made a structure which had many triangles inside it.

During maths we also discovered that some types of Cola Cube sweets are actually not cubes but cuboids!!!

These maths activities are very enjoyable for anyone who has a sweet tooth!!!

St.Brigid’s Day in Room 4

We made crosses to celebrate St.Brigids day .

Felicity picked lots of rushes for us .Thanks Felicity!

We started with one rush .We held this vertically .We then folded another around this pointing east . Moving clockwise we added more rushes to make a pattern .
